Wouldn't t be great if there was a legal, free way to view thousands of films and documentaries from not only Asia but across they globe? Well, now there is a way! Thanks to a reasonably new service called Kanopy, those who can access a free regular library account in Melbourne can now access the Kanopy service. Yes you heard right! Dust off that old library card and make your way back in to one of Melbourne's city libraries to update your membership details so that you can take advantage of the new service.
Never fear for the rest of you Aussies who are hanging out for the service, it looks set to commence soon in both Sydney and Brisbane and we can only assume that it will make it way around the country before too soon to offer all residence the free service.
Kanopy specialises in indie and arthouse films and documentaries and has over 30,000 films and documentaries for you to chose from. It actually started as a distribution service to Universities in Perth back in 2008 and now its available in some of America's largest Universities and slowly its making its way to destinations globally.
The Kanopy team explain "We didn't always see the world this way. We started out selling DVDs to Australian University Libraries - distributing everything from blockbusters to rare and obscure documentaries. We knew students loved learning through film and we wanted to make it easy for libraries to find and acquire the films. A few years later, we launched a streaming solution and moved our headquarters to San Francisco to expand into the North American and UK markets. Now we're lucky enough to look out our windows every day to watch the fog rolling in over the San Francisco Bay. We are proud to stream more than 26,000 films to over 3,000 higher education campuses worldwide, reaching millions of students around the globe. Our reach is now extending to public libraries across the world.
There's also a great selection of television dramas to choose from. We highly recommedn that you get on to www.kanopystreaming.com now to find out how easy it is to acces their large library of goodies.
