Sydney – Thursday 3 August 2017 – KCON, the world’s largest Korean culture convention and music festival, is coming to Australia for the first time in September, held at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney.
The two-day spectacular will showcase everything about Korean lifestyle including K-fashion, K-beauty, K-food, K-dance, K-drama by day, and then unleash the high-energy sounds and sights of top K-pop artists by night.
KCON started in California in 2012 and now attracts over 100,000 fans to the U.S.(New York, Los Angeles) version. Sydney joins Abu Dhabi, Paris, Mexico City and Tokyo in hosting the unique event.
Shin Hyung Kwan, CJ E&M’s President of Music Contents Business division who is in charge of KCON said,
“We’ve come a long way across the world (Latin America-Asia-North America) to finally arrive in Australia as our last stop on KCON 2017 tour. As world’s largest total lifestyle K-culture convention, we’ve pushed forward to expand Korean wave and to make people experience different aspects of K-culture, exploring new territory and meeting diverse people worldwide. Together with TEG, we will provide fascinating experience by connecting Australian fans into one through Hallyu.”
TEG CEO Geoff Jones said he was proud to bring the amazing KCON to Sydney.
“The global spread of K-pop is one of the biggest waves to sweep entertainment over the past decade and we know there is a massive following across Australia,” said Jones. “The youthful energy behind KCON makes it an absolutely unique concept and TEG will make sure that KCON in Sydney is unforgettable.”
The two-day KCON will be staged at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 September. The pre-sale opens on 11 August and the general public on sale commences on 14 August at www.ticketek.com.au
Various hottest K-pop acts have already been confirmed including one of the biggest K-pop acts in the world. As it is the first time being held in Australia, expectations from the local fans are higher than ever.
Since its launch in 2012, KCON has grown exponentially to become the undisputed epicenter for all things Hallyu (a.k.a The Korean Wave). KCON first began in California in 2012, and the festival began to expand in earnest last year, holding KCON UAE(Abu Dhabi), France(Paris), Mexico(Mexico City), Japan(Tokyo) and U.S.(New York, Los Angeles). In total it drew over 460,000 Korean culture fans around the world, over the past 6 years.
The KCON 2017 festival will operate under the banner theme of “Let’s KCON,” which underlines the festival’s essence – present since its inception – to promote engagement between the fans themselves, between fans and the stars, and between fans and the multi-faceted cultural phenomenon of Hallyu.
