For years Melbourne's AO Dance crew have been wowing crowds both across our nation and internationally as they put their own spin on some of Kpop's finest music videos. They have won several awards for their work globally and have done Australia proud as they represent us on the big stage. For this reason, the APR team decided to chose our favorite AO videos, here they are!
5. Sistar 'Shake It'
A collaborative effort between some of Melbourne's best dance crews, AO Crew teamed up with a range of crews including KM United, LACE dance crew, Hustle, BYS, Flare and Mint. AO have always worked collaboratively with other groups and they always get results. The energy in the room for this production really does come through in the final edit.
4. Exo 'Overdose'
In 2014 the group were lead by Choreographer Tony Testa for this Kpop dance video putting their spin on EXO's 'Overdose'. It was plain to see that not only was the choreography spectacular, but that the cinematography and the editing of the final video were miles ahead of other posting similar videos at the time. If any Kpop dance video is an example of the work that Kpop fans put into their craft, this one sure takes the cake!
3. Crayon Pop 'Lonely Christmas'
Showing that the boys of AO crew don't always take life too seriously, in December of 2013 they decided to cover Crayon Pop's Lonely Christmas. The song wasn't as big as the girl groups earlier release 'Bar Bar Bar' which made it to our radios in June of the same year, but it certainly helped grow their fan base internationally with a little help from worldwide distribution from SONY music who were no doubt looking for the next big thing following PSY's worldwide smash Gangnam Style.
Crayon Pop made their way to Australia earlier that year to promote themselves locally and Asian Pop Radio were instrumental in organising a Crayon Pop pop up gig on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Here's what happened!
2. GD x Taeyang 'Good Boy'.
Yeah we know, there are so many current boy bands to chose from and AO Crew have done us proud with covers of some of our favorite male groups in more recent times including takes on BTS songs that have helped them to some pretty impressive view counts of 1.6 million in one case, but we can't go past this GD and Taeyang classic. Once again, the guys impressed with their moves but one of the stand outs of this video was how the lighting really highlighted their routine setting the scene for a video that eyes were glued to from start to finish. The camera work was on point as well.
1. Taeyang 'Ringa Linga'
Nothing has made us more prouder than this video AO produced to show their appreciation for Taeyang's track Ringa Linga. It has everything you could want, a great concept, unstoppable dance moves and some of Melbourne's best scenery, showing the world that there is a dedicated Kpop fan base in Australia (Melbourne specifically). The video kicks off around Degraves Street, famous worldwide for coffees and brunching, showcases amazing graffiti art that you can only find in the laneways of this city and finishes up with a rooftop performance from the car park of Federation Square. The finished product shows clearly how much time the group put into scouting for locations and the energy that goes into their choreography.
