Army, you've done it again... again! On Monday Asian Pop Radio reported that Bangtan Boys (BTS) latest album release ' Love Yourself: Tear' had in a Kpop first, become the first from an Asian group to make its way to the number one position on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Big Hit Entertainment rejoiced in the news that 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 24, got the boys to the peak position according to reports by Nielsen Music. 100,000 of these sales were in traditional album sales.
Today, Billboard announced that the single "Fake Love" lifted from the album, had made its way to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, BTS have broken their own record for the highest-charting Hot 100 hit for a K-pop group, passing their track "MIC Drop" which hit number 28 at the years end in 2017. The only other Korean musician to chart within the top 10 was PSY and his worldwide smash Gangnam Style. The viral hit reached the number 2 position on the chart and lasted their for 7 weeks in 2012, followed by Gentlemen which reached number 5 the following year.
However Fake Love's debut at number 10 tops Gangnam Styles' debut of number 12 on the same chat. Does this mean Fake Love is destined to be a bigger hit than PSY's smash? Is it a more credible Kpop song when going back to back? Time will tell!
