Diversity is our thing at Asian Pop Radio and that’s one of the reasons why we were excited to interview Soju Love!
Soju is a Korean drag queen based in Chicago, USA, who has just released a super sweet and super juicy debut track “So Juicy”! It’s a fun and catchy bubblegum pop song that has a slight nod to the older style of K-Pop music like Girls Generation and f(x). The single is available on all digital platforms, and will be accompanied by a music video very soon!
In the podcast, Jhube talks to Soju about the highlights from her career. From (still) being a baby drag queen to being asked to fly to New York and report on one of the biggest drag events in the world RuPaul’s DragCon, she is still as humble as ever! You can tell she loves the art of drag and loves all of her fans that support her in everything she does.
You can watch Soju on her YouTube channel where she interviews many talented artists on her show “Shot With Soju”. She self describes herself as "the Connie Chung of drag" but she’s totally Oprah Winfrey! What do you guys think?
This week at Asian Pop Radio we are celebrating Vietnamese pop music in all its wonder and glory. We are extremely impressed by how the Vietnamese pop industry has grown even just within the past 5 years and how its music is taking the region by storm. Personally the crew at APR have always been huge fans of Vpop as we see that there are so many influences in the mix of today's modern releases.
Not only has Korean pop music been an inspiration to many of today's modern Vpop releases, you still see elements of distinctly Vietnamese sounds, styles & dance moves. You would think that this bubbling pot of influences could be tragic and yet most of the time their top performers pull it off, and their songs are hugely successful both at home and internationally. Sure Vpop stars are not yet house hold names across Asia as are idols such as PSY, Utada Hikaru or Bangtang Boys, but more and more they are making themselves seen and heard internationally.
Today we are highlighting diva Dong Nhi who has achieved 68 international and national awards including best South-Asian act at EMA 2016, has released 48 songs, 2 albums and was in the top 50 women of great influence in communication as published by Forbes Vietnam. She has regularly been previewed on top music video TV networks beyond Vietnam and this month is MTV Asia's 'Asia Spotlight Artist of the Month. This week Asian Pop Radio has added her recent track Xin Anh Đừng to our playlist plus 6 other new Vpop tracks that we will also be sharing with you at asianpopradio.com across the weekend ahead. Remember to tune in to Asian Pop Radio for more Vpop, Kpop, Jpop and music from a diversity of Asian musicians and genre's 24/7.
