Jay John talks to Singaporean favourite Charlie Lim about his upcoming second appearance at the Brisbane Festival! He last played at the special arts event in 2015 as a solo act and this time he’s bringing his full 7-piece band The Mothership.
Charlie is regarded as one of Singapore’s finest musical exports and his music has opened doors to the region’s biggest festivals and stages. He has supported international artists such as Kimbra and Sigur Rós. In March this year, he performed at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne, alongside Ailee. His songs have reached over 2.4 million plays on Spotify alone, his record ‘TIME/SPACE’ clinched the No. 1 album spot on iTunes’ Singapore chart, and it was deemed Album of the Year by The Straits Times, Singapore’s leading newspaper.

Lim describes his music as introspective, earnest, melancholic, soulful and g r o o v y (baby, YEAH). He also tells Jay John about his life as an international student in Melbourne, his transition between cities as a student and as a musician, and which artists he is inspired by.
Charlie Lim and The Mothership will be performing as part of Brisbane Festival on September 17th at Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent. Find out more at brisbanefestival.com.au
