If there is an upside of living in a country (Australia) that's filled with radio stations that are often ignorant to the brilliance of the Asian music market, its that on occasion you go on your own hunt for something unique and you find an artist overseas that impresses you from the very moment you learn of them. For me, one of those musicians is Sezairi a pop, soul singer from Singapore.
Yes it has been know that in recent times I have become a little obsessed with the the Singaporean music scene and to a further extent whats happening over the Causeway in Malaysia but its for good reason, there are so many amazing musicians spurting up across a heap of different genre's in both nations.
Sezairi's break was perhaps his appearance on Singapore Idol Season 3 in which he took the top spot in 2009. His first full-lenght album 'Take Two' around a year later earned him further street cred with his debut single 'Broken' which received great traction on local radio. A few years later his first Malay track 'Sayang' was well received in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
In 2016 the artist released the dance floor banger 'Fire to the Floor', a song that I found difficult to get out of my head. The retro-style track had a very catchy tune and a lively music video to accompany it. The song was loved so much by the Asian Pop Radio team, it ranked highly on our end of year charts for Asia's best songs of 2016.
Now the soulful maestro is back with his latest ear-worm ‘70s’ to give everyone a legitimate reason for busting out their long retired dance shoes. Collaborating with internationally renowned Swedish writers/producers Ronny Vidar Svendsen, Anne Judith Stokke Wik, Nermin Harambasic, Martin John Kleive Mulholland and Hugo Solis (whose works include KPOP girl group TWICE, Girls Generation, Nathan Skye & more) on this latest track, the experienced musician elaborates on how the song comprehensively encapsulates all of his personal quirks in 3 and a half minutes - “I would best describe ‘70s’ as the culmination of all the things I love and all the joy I feel when I make music. It's about losing yourself and finding yourself at the same time. It’s an aural experience of things that make me feel alive.”
His Idol days may seem like a thing of the past, but Sezairi has since used that momentum and lengthened it out over the past couple of years to establish himself as a versatile live performer with a distinct and one-of-a-kind groovy sound. Still buzzing from his recent Shine Fest 2017 performance, Sezairi is all geared up to rekindle the dance floors once again, this time with the nostalgic and Motown-infused throwback track ‘70s’ to make everyone remember just why his musical chops and homegrown charm are a force to be reckoned with.
