bittymacbeth embarks on a new sound with her new single, Trace (Comfortable Sympathy), which she produced together with Korean indie producer DAMYE. The collaboration sees bittymacbeth’s signature style of soulful crooning, melodic Moog basslines and jazzy trumpets, paired with DAMYE's off-kilter hip-hop beats. The tune is the first release in a four-song-suite which loosely interprets the five stages of grief — in life, instead of death.
The single is also the first in a string international collaborations between the bittymacbeth and indie producers from South Korea, Italy, Australia, and the US. On the theme of “denial”, Trace (Comfortable Sympathy) explores the emotional burden of empathy toward loved ones’ struggles or “ticker tape tragedies”.
In her own words, bittymacbeth explains: “What a privilege and a curse it is to be trusted with someone else's innermost secrets of struggle and pain. I'm the kind of person who feels a lot when I hear about someone else's experiences. As they say, ignorance is bliss. I can't help but sometimes feel… maybe I would be better off if I didn’t know the things that I know now, the evil that humans are capable of and inflict on one another.“
The Singaporean songwriter recently released her single across all platforms and its been well received, today it reached #4 on the Spotify Singapore viral charts.
On 8 August, in a commitment to make love a verb and not just a case of “comfortable sympathy”, she will stage a single launch party and use this as a platform to support causes close to her heart. bittymacbeth will donate proceeds from merchandise sales to an anti-human trafficking cause and play a special collaborative show with upcoming female singer-songwriters Marian Carmel and Kyla T, giving them a platform to be in the spotlight away from over-shadowing of male-dominance of the music industry.
