Singapore indie-pop band, M1LDL1FE, has just released the official music video for their second single “How You Forget”.
The song about how we treat memories of the people we love, this slow-burning number’s instrumentation reflects its pensive lyrical themes. “The idea for the song came about when I found myself not being able to remember some of my moments with an ex-lover. It was as if those moments never existed. And I found it strange that for someone with whom at the time you felt so connected to, someone you allowed inside your walls, memories with them you would think be permanent, yet you cannot seem to remember most of it,” explains front-man Paddy Ong. Pulsing to a steady beat, the song is driven by a looping, almost ennui-like 4-note arpeggio, sitting in-between chiming, reverb-drenched guitars.

On the music video, director Jacky Lee shared: “I wanted the camera to mimic that of someone eyes, observing all these little things that are going on… like you are people-watching. I wanted the audience to feel a sense of familiarity and nostalgia while watching the video. The whole circle (frame) inspiration came about when I started to think about how to metaphorically represent topics like how life shouldn’t be a boring cycle day after day, embracing the little things in life even if they are not perfect, having a second chance in life, and how a lot of people around me are so caught up in the rat race.”
In July, M1LDL1FE debuted the music video for their first single, “Distraction”, which topped the Viral 50 Chart in Singapore and over 320k streams on Spotify. Their second single, “How You Forget”, also topped the iTunes Rock charts in Singapore.
Co-produced by M1LDL1FE and Evan Low of Zendyll Productions, the five-track EP is a collection of stories that glows with the residue of loss and change. ‘M1LDL1FE EP’ is available here: radi.al/M1ldl1feEP
