Electronic-pop vocalist and producer Rainbow Chan releases her second single of the year, ‘CSR’. Based in Sydney via Hong Kong, she has a super keen eye for global pop culture and continues to make hypnotic and intelligent electronic dance music.
Rainbow Chan took Australia by storm this year after headlining 'The Inner Westival', headlining 'Purple Sneakers Twelfth Birthday' presented by Vivid Sydney & FBi Radio, and joining Client Liaison at their music festival 'Expo Liaison' along the east coast of Australia.
Effortlessly flowing between English, Cantonese and Mandarin spoken word, ‘CSR’ slides into lo-fi club territory that is reminiscent of Chan’s other projects Chunyin and DIN (with Alex Ward). Writing in her mother tongue, Chan turns the dancefloor into a polyvocal space which pushes against the Western gaze. The song is mesmerising and soothing. It's easy to be pulled into a trance and into another universe from her dream-like vocals.
Rainbow Chan is playing on our radio station streaming Asia-wide hits 24/7. Listen here.
The music video was directed by Chan's long-time collaborator Hyun Lee (director of short film Asian Girls also starring Rainbow Chan). The MV is pure artistry that boldly celebrates contemporary Asian cinematography, fusing Sino-futuristic nightclubs and languishing, tender skylines. Rainbow Chan showcases all of her incredibly sophisticated dimensions she has to offer through her tranquil dance moves, eccentric makeup, and multiple hairclips.
'CSR' is the second tasting from her upcoming LP to be released in 2019 and the follow up to single 'Promises' which saw high rotation on FBi Radio, RTRFM, Edge Radio, regular spins on 3RRR and 4ZZZ and support from online taste-makers including Noisey, Frankie, and Junkee.
