Singapore Idol Alumnus Duane Ho, addresses feelings of loss and the attempt to heal through his original debut single, Porcelain. The song is also featured on filmmaker Kieran Cheang’s short narrative, Come Home.
Driven by a series of personal experiences and having the short film Come Home as a rich motif on which the song was built upon, Duane began the writing process that spanned over three months. Then birthed Porcelain, which he drew inspirations from the strength yet fragility of the ceramic material.
“To me, our hearts are porcelain. Going through the intense heat of life is possibly the only way one can grow and become stronger.” Duane describes the imagery used in his song.
Porcelain is also featured on Kieran Cheang’s film about the subtleties of mental health, Come Home, an official selection of Berlin Flash Film Festival 2017. “Duane’s song about the rebirth of one’s character suggests the dualism of the self, which is fitting for the theme I was exploring”, Kieran explains the reason behind this collaboration. Porcelain is produced by Evan Low at Zendyll Productions.
