Fans of K pop boy group ‘The Rose’ got the shock of their life earlier this evening when during the Arirang Radio program ‘Super K-pop’ the boys seemingly broke the news that the idols would “soon” be heading to Australia. As it usually is in this country, the news spread like wildfire in K pop circles and the video was re-shared on popular Facebook page ‘K pop Concerts in Australia’.
Super K-pop host Sam Carter (a former interviewee on Asian Pop Radio) read a question from one of their Aussie fans out to the band members Hajoon, Woosung, Dojoon and Jaehyung, stating: “Samantha from Australia says I heard you might be coming to Australia, I do hope you do”
The band then responded with “Yes we are, yes we are going, we talked about this, didn’t we talk about it here?” referring to the previous time they were on the music show.
During the interview the boys referred back to their past conversation, where they had expressed wanting to come to Australia, but also their uncertainty over when or if it would happen. In this latest appearance however, the four idols were able to fully confirm their trip down under, telling their Aussie fans “we weren’t sure, we are now sure”. When prompted for a timeline for such a concert their chorused response was “soon, soon, soon”.
It’s been a fast rise to success for the group, having only debuted last year with their single ‘Sorry’. Since then, the band have gained a huge following world-wide and have continued to grow alongside their fans, known as ‘Black Rose’.
Nevertheless, a question remains: if they are heading to Australia, which city(s) will they be coming to? With the growing presence of the Hallyu Wave in Korea, a recent study by ticketing giant ‘StubHub’ examined which cities purchased the most K-pop concert tickets downunder. Melbourne accounted for 31% of K pop ticket sales across 2018, while Sydney recorded 28% of all sales. Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide 4% respectively accounted for 9, 6 and 4% of sales (read more about the study here).
If the numbers above are any indication we are likely to see the band perform in Victoria or New South Wales once again, but there is still the possibility that the boys and their agency will think outside the square and perform elsewhere too. One thing is for sure, we will continue to save up our pocket money for what is set to be an amazing show!
